Nā moʻolelo o Hawaiʻi

Stories of our Islands

Moʻolelo are more than Kipling-esque Just-So-Stories. Like the hula, they encode information critical to the transmission of knowledge and culture. In this course we explore some of our traditional Hawaiian stories. We will look for the markers that differentiate between modern mythology, and ancient lore. Students will be expected to do independent research in stories of Hawaiʻi and the Pacific Basin.
